Parenting Gen Z Kids: The Child in the Parent – Reflective Practice
A One-Day Professional Workshop
On 17 January 2026, PSCHY hosted Parenting Gen Z Kids: The Child in the Parent – Reflective Practice, a one-day professional workshop held at Kassaba Inn, Calicut. The workshop brought together mental health professionals, teachers, school counsellors, and special educators for a day of reflective learning and clinical dialogue focused on parenting across generations.
The workshop was led by Dr. Bino Thomas, Additional Professor at NIMHANS, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit. Drawing from extensive clinical and academic experience, Dr. Bino guided participants through a structured exploration of parenting, intergenerational dynamics, and the emotional worlds of both parents and children.
A few sessions were also facilitated by Cathy V Roshini, PhD Scholar, Department of Psychiatric Social Work (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry), NIMHANS, Bengaluru. Her sessions added depth to the reflective process, offering nuanced perspectives grounded in child and adolescent mental health practice.
The workshop also shifted focus inward, inviting participants to explore the inner child within themselves. This session examined how unresolved childhood experiences and trauma shape adult parenting styles, emotional responses, and relational patterns. Through reflective discussions, participants were encouraged to connect personal histories with professional practice, deepening both self-awareness and clinical sensitivity.
The workshop created a thoughtful and contained space for reflection, dialogue, and learning. Participants engaged actively, bringing both professional insight and personal reflection into the room, enriching the collective experience.
At PSCHY, we continue to design workshops that integrate theory, clinical practice, and self-reflection. Parenting Gen Z Kids reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting professionals in developing deeper reflective capacity while working with parents, children, and families across generations.
